Jindo Moses Festival

The Moses Parting of the Sea Festival happens every year in May where the sea parts far enough between 2 islands that you can walk across.

It's super neat and since it fell on a holiday, many were able to make the short trip to Jindo and enjoy this phenomenom.
There was lots of drumming, sea weed, fish, performances and booze. I tried the local alcohol called Hongju which is 40%. Whoa!

I went with my friends Joan and Jocelyn. Joan has a car so it was lovely to not be crammed in a smelly bus with lots of other people.

We walked around, ran into friends, drank Hongju, took lots of pictures and finally walked across the water to the other island.

Well, we didn't quite make it to the other island as the water was starting to come back in but we were pretty close.

It was super cool and great time.

Hi, sorry, we're not Facebook friends so I couldn't comment on your photo over there, haha. But I just wanted to pass along a link from my blog which talks about the anti-Americanism that went on during the commemoration events in Gwangju. It was pretty bizarre, but given the climate, especially down here, I guess I should have expected something like that. Kind of strange that everyone was taking the opportunity of a massacre, in which lots of people died, to complain about beef and the outside chance that somebody, somewhere, might, maybe, who knows, contract a disease. Not sure how much of the rally you saw, but the organizers were trying their best to link the Massacre to the beef rallies and to inspire the same fervor in the residents today that they had in 1980.

As you probably know most of those paintings were referring to a 2002 incident when an American military vehicle hit and killed two middle school girls. The country got swept up in huge, ugly anti-American protests for a few years. Surprising, considering how dangerous it is for pedestrians around here, and how little regard is paid to traffic safety. Anyway, sorry for the hijack, it just gets me worked up, haha.
