Panajachel

So after spending 24 of 48 hours on a bus, we finally arrived in Guatemala city on Friday.

In short, what we noticed about Hondurus as we passed through was all of the garbage.
It just collected in mass amounts in the ditches on the side of the road.
Along with the garbage there were lots of massive potholes in the road. The bus driver had to constantly swerve to avoid them.
Oh, and pupusas. Man, if you like 'em, this is the place to be.

Late that night we arrived in San Salvador in El Salvador. Big, big city.
Here we noticed TONS of graffiti. Absolutely everywhere.
Did not feel safe to go walk around.

The next day we arrived in Guatemala city and then had to head to the former capital, Antigua, for another hour bus ride. From there, change vans for another 2.5 hour ride to the biggest town on Lago de Atitilan, Panajachel.

Here we are staying with Kent and Denise, folks that live near Randy in Rock Creek in the house they have rented for a few months. Very kind of them and we are having a good time.

What we've noticed about Guatemala so far is:

* Hilly and windy roads.
* COLORS! Beautiful bright colors.
* AMAZING textiles and craftsmanship. (Too much shopping!)
* People are small.
* Kids work.
* Farms up on the highest hilltop.
* Delicious fruits and veggies from the local farms.
* No rice with breakfast.
* Lots of bread.
* Tuk tuks. Also very colorful and creative.
* Cool buses. See above.
* Weather. Warm and beautiful during the day and quite chilly after sunset.
* Lots of construction on the highways.
