Santo Domingo has been a beautiful stay. Originally we had poo-pooed staying at this hostel as it received very bad reviews on Trip Advisor but our Alaskan buddies decided to stay here anyway so we decided to join them and check it out.
The place has turned out to be one of the best places we have stayed.
Windy as hell but a nice quiet spot on the beach, lots of birds and tiny lizards and a wicked staff.
The cook cooks up some mean meals too. Every meal we have had has been delicious.
I have found a new dish. Tostones con queso. Fried plantain with cheese on top.
Oh my goodness. I've eaten it every day since I discovered it.
After getting our asses kicked by Volcan Maderas we took it easy yesterday with a nice long walk to the fresh mountain water lagoon. It was lovely and refreshing.
Today was great. After another great meal at breakfast and some reading we rented bikes and rode around the island. Legs still tender from the hike, the uphill climbs were a little tough but it was fun and necessary to break up some of that lactic acid build up!
We saw lots of pigs, chickens, horses, cows, cats, dogs, parrots and hippies.
From the organic farm Finca Magdalena, we bought some homemade nutella spread, hummous and fresh bread. Handmade by hippies. They all smell amazing and I can't wait to dig in!
Tomorrow we will head to Granada. I am really looking forward to the architecture, art, food, history, people and everything the oldest city in the America's has to offer.
