Adios San Juan

Our last day in San Juan was a good one.
Started with early morning yoga, our last Nica style breakfast followed by the usual
hour or 2 at the coffee shop.
We had our last attempt at surfing at Playa Madera and back to town for sunset.

Before the daunting task of packing our mochilas, we met up with some cool NYC chicks we met
through the cool NYC chick who teaches yoga in town.

Lots of laughs were had. A good night.

Our bags are now packed and tomorrow we'll head to Costa Rica and spend the day in Liberia
and then spend all of Wednesday pretty much in the air or in the airport due to a long layover.

Everything feels just as it did before we left. We knew it was happening but it just didn't feel
real.
Maybe once we get to the airport, or arrive in Vancouver or when we're home shoveling snow.

Man, I hope there isn't any snow!!!

Here's to the end of an amazing journey and to the beginning of another.

Lunch with Codo's family

This afternoon we had the pleasure of sharing a homemade Nica style lunch with our new friend Armando (Codo) and his family.
My good friend Heather had dated Codo for a few years so it was great to finally meet him and spend some time together during our time in SJDS.

His mom and sister prepared a lovely vegetarian feast for us and we hung out on the porch and bullshitted afterwards.
It was lovely.

Foods we love

This first picture actually looks pretty gross but it's delicious.
Cheese quesadilla from our favorite cheap hole in the wall restaurant, TACO STOP. Topped with the refried beans in a bag. Mmmmmmm

Next, the 2nd best pizza we found on the trip. The best goes to Don Luca in Granada but we don't have a picture.
This pizza is made by a man straight from Rome and makes the real, deal pie. Very good.

My favorite ice cream is the Choco Menta and Randy enjoys the TRITS. Had one almost every day. That might account for the bit of extra pounds I am carrying at the moment.

The best food experience of all though was found at el mercado. The market. We went there every morning for breakfast. For under $5 we would get enough food to keep us full until dinner time. Cheap and delicious. I'll sure miss the food there!

Yoga Kitty

This little sweetheart lives at the yoga studio in town. Along with enjoying the awesome classes at ZEN YOGA, I also looked forward to sneaking in a little snuggle session with this one.

She would sleep against the wall in the studio during class which brought a little more Zen to the room.

The best memory I have of this cat is during a packed Sunday morning class, kitty comes in the room carrying her freshly caught breakfast. A mouse. Tail dangling from her mouth and her meowing for us all to take a look at what a good mouser she is.

Pana Dogs

These were the beautiful guard dogs at Kent and Denise's house that they rented.
Lovely.

Ducks in Granada

These interesting little ducks thought that they owned this lovely pool that allowed non-guests to use the facility for $5 a day.

We've never seen ducks like this before. Very cute.

ANIMALS

The next few entries will focus on all of the lovely animals we've met along our journey.

Muy Snuggly

This little girl was muy snuggly.

This was at Laguno de Apoyo outside of Granada.
We snuggled for quite some time. It was nice.

Randy was asleep in the hammock and missed out on the snuggles.

Rooftops in Granada

We called this sweetheart 'Rooftop Kitty'.
She has a pretty good life. Has a good home at the hostel in which we stayed and cruised around all of the nearby rooftops.
Never had to deal with dogs or traffic.
She was chatty and enjoyed short snuggles.

Kitty at playa Maderas

At this lovely hostel right on the beach lived a couple of sweet animals but the sweetest of all
was 'Orange Cat'.
She clearly ruled the roost here and would almost demand a taste of the food we were eating.
(Notice her paw on Randy's arm for some peanut butter)
It was pretty entertaining to watch her eat a big hunk of PB. That kept her busy for a while.

She stole our food and our hearts.

Miss you Orange Cat.

Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica also had lots of wildlife to offer. Lots of monkey and raccoons in the national park and lots of fish when we went "snorking".
The best was when the raccoons opened our backpacks and looked for food while we were in the water snorkeling.

Jaco.

In Jaco, the trees in the backyard of the cozy home turned hostel were home to these beautiful Macaw's.
They are damn loud but so pretty.

Another clear memory of Jaco was during our surf lesson where we got to see several manta rays surfing the very waves we were attempting. It was so cool. No. Cool doesn't even describe it.
It was so amazing to watch these guys swimming and surfing so naturally in the waves and doing it because it was fun.
The looked like aliens.
They are much better surfers than us.
