Gigante and Stuff

Last week we ventured about 25km North of SJDS to the fishing
village of Gigante.
Here we hoped to find good, small waves for learning and maybe check out
some small lots for purchase.

Unfortuntaley we found neither.

Gigante the town is pretty gross actually. Garbage everywhere
and people just living real life. Shacks, stolen or no power, oxen, pigs etc.

The beach on Gigante didn't have any surfable waves but the next beach nearby did.
We MIGHT have tried to get in the water if it didn't cost so much to rent a crappy old board
and if we weren't going to get hypothermia in the water.

Prices in Gignate were way more than in town and the way the wind blows in this area for 3
of the year, Nicaragua is super windy. This wind blows all of the warm ocean air away and
churns up the cold stuff lying underneath making the water frigid.

Our trip to Gigante wasn't a highlight of the trip unfortunately. The beaches and rock formations were beautiful but our hotel and the surroundings of the village left much to be
desired.

We did meet a few good folks and got some nice pictures.

We've kind of given up on the surfing for now as the water is just so cold.
We contemplated heading back down to Costa Rica for warmer water but it doesn't
jive with our budget unfortunately.

So we'll hang out in SJDS for the remainder of our trip and go back to Spanish school, run on
the beach, do some yoga and be cheap.
