I find myself struggling with my relationship to technology and staying connected to friends and family
via email and Facebook and just wanting to cut myself off completely and fully enjoy immerse myself in this
adventure that I am lucky enough to be able to take.
Any trip I have been on I always find myself thinking of the movie The Beach where Leonardo Dicaprio's character
is describing how we go abroad to these beautiful places that are full of culture and life and we find the local expat
restaurant or bar and watch North American movies and eat our North American food are not really allowing ourselves
to fully dive into the environment we are in.
Everywhere I've been, people are sitting in internet cafes or coffee shops surfing through Facebook. Myself included.
I will never deny the fact that Facebook is an amazing tool to reconnect with people and stay in touch. It definitely is that,
but do I need to know what Jimmy had for breakfast today and how good or bad it was?
Is this how I'm spending my vacation? In fact, do I EVER need to know this frivolous information?
So.
What I have decided is that I will check in with FB and email here and there to let people know
that we are safe and sound.
What is so wrong with staying connected with the people you love? Why am I getting spun about this??
(A cute little monkey just walked by on the power line just now. They are so sweet
but I'm sure would tear my eyes out).
I'm enjoying reconnecting with my blog for now and hope that you enjoy it too.
Tell me your thoughts on technology and what you have found on your own travels please.
