Ok so some explanation on what a sauna/jjimjillbang is.
1. It is AWESOME.
2. You can sleep there.
3. It's a place for everyone and anyone to go to where you get a sweet set of shorts and t-shirt and can go sweat it out in a different sauna rooms at different temperatures. You can lounge, sleep, snuggle, do yoga in the common area when you aren't in a sauna room.
After you are done with the saunas, you go down to your respective change rooms where you get naked and join your friends in different pools at different temps. This particular sauna was supplied with mineral water from 300m below ground.
Here you can also get a scrub, shampoo or a massage from an adjuma (older Korean woman usually running around in her underwear in this setting).
I had always been curious about getting a scrub but basically never found the balls to get all naked and jump on the scrub table. Also, I was a bit scared that the scrub would be really painful!
Well, being as I believe that you can only grow when you are uncomfortable, this was on my list of things to do before we left Korea.
So, on our last night, I got a scrub. Fully naked, my adjuma only had her gitch on and she started scrubbin' away. It was AMAZING. It felt soooooo good. Skin was comin off everywhere. She gave me a bit of a massage which felt fantastic due to the very uncomfortable pillow I was sleeping on.
Aside from the scrub, I LOVE the jjimjillbang. It's warm, people are just chillin, you get a good sweat and stretch and it's a nice way to connect with the locals.
We need to have them in Canada!
